Jones & Wagener is seeking to employ a Senior Engineering Geologist in the Geotechnical Engineering Department of Jones & Wagener. The candidate will be directly accountable to the Unit Manager and Head of Department. The candidate will be located at our Rivonia office (Johannesburg) with the option to work from the Centurion office on certain days of the week, as agreed with the Head of Department.

Qualifications:
- BSc (Hons) Engineering Geology (minimum)
- Professional registration with SACNASP essential.

Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years’ practical experience in engineering geology.
- Strong track record in geotechnical investigations for a variety of sectors, both in South Africa and Africa.
- Dolomite-specific experience would be advantageous.
- Rock engineering specific experience would be advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and supervise junior engineering geologists and geotechnologists.
Key responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Geotechnical investigations: Planning, execution, and reporting for a variety of investigation levels (preliminary, feasibility, detailed design).
- Data analysis: Collection, analysis, and interpretation of geotechnical data.
- Site supervision: Supervising geotechnical contractors and junior staff, including appointment of contractors, oversight of site operations, and ensuring adherence to project timelines, quality, and environmental standards.
- Mentorship: Supervision and mentoring of junior staff (students, graduates, junior engineering geologists and geotechnologists).
- Reporting: Preparation and delivery of professional quality technical reports and presentations.
- Decision making: Providing sound technical solutions and decisions throughout project phases.
- Project delivery: Ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to client specifications.
- Procurement of work: Preparation of quotations, tenders, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Standards development: Contribution to the development and implementation of internal standards, systems, and best practices.
- Client interaction: Building strong relationships with clients and maintaining professional communication without constant senior oversight.

- Strong knowledge of local geological and geotechnical conditions, including dolomite and problem soils.
- Working knowledge of legislation, regulations and guidelines.

- Geotechnical: Rocscience suite, GeoStudio suite, Leapfrog Works, QGIS/ArcGIS, and other industry-standard packages.
- Programming / coding experience (Visual Basic, Python) will be an advantage.
